There are not many people who when they see an old teddy bear don't fall in love with him and I am certain that it crosses everyone's mind, I wonder where he comes from or, I wonder who owned him. The teddy bear is a a number one icon in the toy world the whole world over, never has a toy been loved so much by so many people of both sexes, all ages and of all nationalities. The teddy bear was born in Germany in 1902, just over a century ago his inventor was Richard Steiff of the famous Steiff Company and since his birth he has sold billions all around the world. I wonder what Richard Syeiff would say today if he could see how the popularity of the teddy bear has grown. He has survived two world wars, economic depressions and the age of computerised toys, but even today show a small child a teddy bear and he immediately falls in love with it. Since his birth the teddy bear has been used in the field of advertising and very successfully for example he has advertised ladies stockings (for which he became very famous for), confectionery and even office stationery. The teddy bear has also earned his keep by working on radio, in television and in films he has fronted charities, had many books and stories written about him and he has had pop singers sing songs about him. The popularity of the old teddy bear just keeps growing and growing and these days he comes in many different sizes, shapes and colours, depending on the manufacturers ideas on the teddy bear. At ginosbears.co.uk we love all teddy bears but we do have a special regard for old teddy bears, bears that have been loved almost to pieces, old bears that have eyes missing, ears missing and even limbs missing somehow have a special appeal to us, they seem to just ooze their history and they make us feel 'comfortable' somehow. Remember your old teddy bear? Well why don't you go and find him and give him a cuddle, he will bring back some happy memories of your childhood we are sure and then take a look, both of you, at ginosbears.co.uk where you can both see lots of old teddy bears and read more about them too, you can even read Gino's blog. Be warned thought, collecting old teddy bears can be very addictive and once you have taken in one old bear you probably won't be able to stop. |
